Magnificent and monumental solid 9 carat gold trophy cup, fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1927.
This is an exceptional quality and remarkable gold trophy cup made in 1927 by Mappin & Webb for the International Horse Show at Olympia, London, in 1928.
The trophy has a domed and rectangular lid with curved canted corners with a superb chased rearing horse finial with the rider holding the wreath of Victory above his head.
The cup has two handles with Tudor Rose motifs to the top.
One side of the trophy has a superb panel with chased horses in the classical manner and the other side has the inscription \'\'International Horse Show, Olympia, London 1928. Champion Cup For Jumping Round The Course, Presented by The Daily Mail, Won By Thomas Glencross\'\'
The stem of the trophy has three superb chased winged Pegasus horses above a spreading pedestal base.
The cup is 8-1/2 inches / 216 mm wide across the handles, 5-1/2 inches / 140 mm deep and it stands 13-1/2 inches / 342 mm high.
The cup weighs an impressive 754 grams of gold.
Both the lid and base have clear hallmarks - 9.375 for 9 carat gold, letter K for 1927 and maker\'s mark M&W for Mappin & Webb.
The trophy is in excellent condition with no dents, damage or repair.
