Maginficent Superb Quality 18th Century Dutch Tobacco Box

Absolutely magnificent example of an early Dutch Tobacco Box of the finest quality dating to the early 1700\'s. This is the largest example I have ever owned it is enormous measuring 5.5\" x 3.35\" and 1.5\" high. The quality it outstanding as you can see from the photographs, if you are a serious collector then this is one not to be missed.

It is decorated with scenes of the Last Supper, there is wear to these as to be expected, the condition of the box is good for an item 300 years old. There are a few dints and if you look at one of the photographs you can see two tiny holes in one of the seams, these can only be seen when opened and held up to the light. The colour and patina are excellent, this is made from a heavy gauge Brass, the etched pattern is really attractive, the hinge works well but of course with any item of this age it needs to be treated with great respect.

This type of case was made for the transportation of Tobacco, good examples such as this are a rare find indeed as they were a well used item at the time and were often damaged. The Netherlands was one of the largest traders in Tobacco and also famous manufacturers of related accessories at this time. These boxes were often produced in Germany and then exported to the Netherlands either already engraved to order or plain ready to be engraved by the purchaser.

I can highly recommend this to any collector it would be a fantastic addition to any collection.
