Founded in 1917, the Krewe of Iris is the oldest all-female Carnival Krewe in New Orleans. Parading on the Saturday before Mardi Gras day, it maintains a global membership of over 1500 active riders.First parading in 1959, the Krewe is known for honoring and following traditional Carnival anonymity customs. The riders on our 36 floats always don hand painted masks and traditional white gloves. Named for the Goddess of the Rainbow, Messenger to the Gods, who has been kind to us, the Krewe has never cancelled a parade due to inclement weather. Our signature throw is hand decorated and designed sunglasses because the sun always shines on Iris! Unlike some others we do post positive response as soon as payment has cleared and do not wait until the buyer has posted response. If you meet your obligation why should you have to wait.
