ARTIST STATEMENT
\"I Have A Dream\"... Martin Luther King, Jr. was a prominent leader in the African-American civil rights movement of the 1960s. I witnessed prejudice and experienced segregation in Alabama as a white child growing up in Alabama during the sixties. If not for chance circumstance, I could have been saddled with the prejudice of ignorance and bigotry. Instead my parents allowed me to be mentored by a woman I knew as Ester. During those years I was carefully and gently exposed to both sides of the equation. I look back now and understand. I understand that all people are born equal and should be given an equal opportunity. This was the simple message behind the dream.
TECHNIQUE
This 3D pop artwork features layers of intricately cut steel mounted over a floating panel. The artist introduces visual depth to the piece by allowing each suspended layer to cast a shadow over the next. It is hand painted and signed by the artist to closely match the example pictured.
