Mens Pristine 1946 Omega 14K SOLID GOLD Vintage 17j Swiss Made Fancy Lug Watch:
$480.00
Among watch collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of name brand recognition, high quality and relative value that are important to the seasoned watch collector.
I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the firm, crafted of 14kt Solid Yellow Gold and in excellent condition. This example dates to ca 1946 and was made entirely in Switzerland, not cased and timed in the USA like most Omega gold watches you see.
Quadruple-signed for Omega, its solid 14k gold case measures 35mm lug tip to lug tip and 23mm in width (24.5mm with Omega winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by 7/8 of an inch wide, not including crown. It has been fully serviced (cleaned, oiled and regulated) and its original 17 jewel, R17.8 caliber Omega mechanism winds and sets smoothly and keeps accurate time.
The gold, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, the original that’s been professionally restored (re-enameled) to its correct status. Features include applied 18k gold hour markers, original gold leaf style hands and a separate seconds dial with ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. Signed OMEGA with applied yellow gold Omega symbol below the 12.
The curved acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The original Omega-signed case is a two-piece example in excellent order, 14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold with stepped sides and “peak” lugs. The case is SPOTLESS in person – my photos don’t do it justice. The original Omega-signed gold winding crown is excellent as well, winding and setting smoothly.
Turning the watch over I find that the snap down back lid is in pristine condition with no wear or engravings, past or present. Inside I find a clean, original rose gold finished mechanism that is signed Omega Watch Co., Swiss - Seventeen 17 Jewels . Below the balance is caliber number R17.8.
The lack of the company import code (OXG) tells us that this was a European market watch, not intended to be sold in the USA. The serial number is #10,608,861 – dating the watch to ca 1946.
The inside of the case back is finely engine turned, stamped Omega Watch Co., Fab. Suisse, Swiss Made – 14K, 0.585 with case number below.
This watch has been fully serviced so you can be assured that it winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate time. It comes fitted on new and high quality 18mm black Fluco, Germany Teju grain calf leather strap with matching gold finished buckle. All in all an impeccable, ready to wear mid-century Tanker style watch from one of Switzerland’s very best. To buy a new solid 14k gold Omega dress watch today would set you back several thousand dollars.
