Founded in 1892, the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start its watch production until March 1894, having first chosen the name Columbian Watch Co. but this name was already copyrighted by the Waterbury Co. The name \"Hamilton\" was derived from Lancaster’s founding father, Mr. Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the growth of Lancaster.

By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant watch and during the WWI period a small line of military style watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through the 1960s.

I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Hamilton timepiece, a men\'s “SEA” series hermetic case model that dates to the early 1960s. This 10kt rolled gold plated and stainless steel watch is in excellent, original condition, only the handcrafted, genuine Fluco, Germany crocodile grain strap is new.

Quadruple-signed for Hamilton, its case measures 38mm lug tip to lug tip and 34mm in width (35.8mm with Hamilton-signed crown). In inches this works out to be 1-1/2” long by just under 1-3/8\" wide, not counting the original crown. It is powered by its original and high quality 17 jewel Hamilton Swiss automatic wind 688 caliber mechanism, fully serviced by my talented watchmaker David just last week to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.

The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, untouched since it left the factory. It features a 60 second outer chapter, raised gold Arabic numbers that rest on an engine-turned (engraved) track, original Lance-style gold metal hands and ‘sweep’ gold center seconds hand. Signed “HAMILTON” below the 12 with trademark symbol and “SWISS” at the base.

The original hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent order. The hermetic case is 10 Karat Yellow Rolled Gold plated and Stainless Steel. It is in excellent shape – far nicer than the photos show. The original Hamilton-signed gold finished crown is excellent too, operating smoothly.

Turning the watch over I note that the case back is flawless like the rest of the watch, stamped Hamilton at one edge and 10K RGP Bezel – Stainless Back at the opposite side.

As this is a hermetic design I had David my watch man take the photos of the mechanism and inner case. The movement is signed Hamilton Watch Co. [Grade] 688 – Seventeen 17 Jewels, Swiss HYL . The inside case lid is stamped HAMILTON W. CO., LANCASTER, PA – 10K RGP BEZEL, STAINLESS STEEL BACK with case number P604,367. The case maker was Star Watch Case. Co.

This \"Sea\" series Hammy has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. Comes complete with a new 17mm black Fluco, German made hand finished crocodile grain, calf leather strap with gold finished buckle. All in all a stellar, all original watch first sold when John F. Kennedy was president – okay, possibly LBJ!

Watch sizes: I provide exact case measurements in millimeters (the watch industry standard) and inches, and include a U.S. quarter in one photo as a size reference. Draw the measurements on a piece of paper to help visualize the watch on your wrist. Remember, men’s vintage watches are noticeably smaller than oversized timepieces you see today. Prefer a brown strap instead of black? For most men’s watches I can switch the color before mailing; just let me know.

U.S. winners pay $6.75 for fully insured, safely boxed USPS shipping with door-to-door tracking. Washington State residents (and those with shipping addresses in Washington State) are required to pay 8.7% sales tax.

Canadian winners pay $32.00 (actual cost) for Global Priority Express with insurance. Other international buyers pay $48.00 (actual or below cost) for Global Priority Express Mail with door-to-door tracking. I cover any additional insurance fees.

All of my watches are under warranty. In the rare event that a watch needs further service upon receipt, return the wristwatch to me (or mail it to my watchmaker, David, in New York City) at my expense. It will be corrected and quickly mailed back to you. Note: I will not pay for or offer a partial refund for work done by another watchmaker.
