MEZUZAH CASE FUSED DICHROIC & STAINED GLASS 5 3/8 Inches Mezuza LJG&AAG #M95:
$32.50

This beautiful kiln fused dichroic stained glass mezuzah case was handmade by the two of us, Lawrence and Audrey Goldsmith (LJG&AAG). The case is signed and dated on the back.

It isapproximately 53/8inches high anda little more than11/4 inches wide at its widest points and can hold a parchment up to approximately41/4inches long.

We designed and made this by carefully cutting and then kiln fusing a combination ofsmall pieces of clear glass mixed with transparent dichroic glass over pieces of transparent stained glass over white stained glass in a multiple step process. We then slumped (melted the glass over a form that we constructed) at approximately 1400 degrees and annealed (slowly cooled)the mezuzah casefor over 8 hours. Dichroic glass is a very beautiful and expensive specialty glass. It isusually very brilliant in color with a jewel-like tone and the colors maylook differentwhen seen from different angles.

Here is a more scientific definition: Dichroic glass isglasscontaining multiple micro-layers ofmetalsoroxideswhich give the glassdichroicoptical properties. The main characteristic of dichroic glass is that it has a particular transmitted color and a completely different reflected color, as certainwavelengthsof light either pass through or are reflected. This causes an array of color to be displayed. The colors shift depending on the angle of view.

We have carefully embedded solid copper wire into it in the fusing process so it can be easily and safely hung with screws (included) or nails (copper tacks included). The wire is flexible enough to gently crimp at the top to reduce the size for nails.

A parchment (Klaf in Hebrew) is not included with the case.

A mezuzah case is made to hold a small piece of parchment hand inscribed by a skilled religious scribe with the biblical passages Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21. The parchment is rolled up in the mezuzah case and affixed by Jewish households to their door frames in conformity with Jewish law and as a sign of faith. If you are not able to find a proper kosher parchment in your area, please email us and we will be glad to direct you to a source.

Please note that we have tried our best to provide an accurate photograph; however, stained glass can appear differently in different light. The enlarged photograph on your monitor sometimes tends to accentuate texture andreflections and show minor flaws that may not be noticed at its actual size.
