Very rare antique pigskin leather kangaroo made c.1930s-50\'s. This one likely predates Omersa\'s production (and if you read their story on the Omersa website you see they were inspired to produce their animals by one made in the early 1900\'s by a Spanish company). Omersa and several other early makers of that era are famous for their handmade leather animal footstools, and Abercrombie and Fitch made them even more famous when they started selling them in the 1960\'s (and Edie Sedgewick was photographed by a famous photographer standing one one).

This big guy was actually produced as a magazine holder (You put magazines in his pouch). Amazing decorative piece for a mid century modern interior (and it actually works well as a holder for remote controls if you want to put it to use).

These leather animals are incredibly difficult to find and the kangaroo is one of the rarest ones (and one of the biggest). The condition is amazing for its age. No tears or damage. Just the usual scuffs and toning of the leather from age.

The kangaroo measures 32 inches tall by 23 wide across his feet. He is 27 inch deeps when you measure the depth from his tail to front of foot.

I used to be an antique dealer and I\'ve been collecting these leather animal ottomans, stools and doorstops out of estates for over 20 years. I\'m moving overseas so am selling some of my collection.
