Item DescriptionA mid-century illustration by Tom Funk of a building on the corner of 14th and 6th Ave. in Greenwich Village NYC. If you use Google map street view you can see this building is still on that corner, albeit with different tenants.Tom Funk (1911-2003) was a prolific artist of incidental interior art used in the New Yorker Magazine. Anyone who is a regular reader of the New Yorker will recognize his work. His wife, Edna Eicke, did the cover art for many New Yorker issues.I don\'t know exactly what type of artwork this is and I\'m familiar with many types of printmaking. When you look at it with a magnifying glass the illustration appears in relief, it looks like the material was covered with black ink and then cut away with knives and scrapers exposing the white. You can see the black is smooth and higher while the white lines are recessed grooves. Perhaps it\'s some type of etching, I\'m not sure.The illustration is signed in black ink lower left corner. The location is printed very lightly in pencil in the upper right hand corner.The illustration is matted, framed, glazed, and ready to hang. The matte is a psychedelic style that would have been in vogue during the 1960s.The frame is 12 x 11-1/2 inches and the sight is 4-1/4 x 3-5/8 inches.Please use the picture enlargement feature to see the details in the high resolution photographs.A unique little piece of New York City history.Item Condition
