Following on from the Monnaie de Paris 2016 sellout series Mickey through the Ages (see below), 2017 sees the Mint producing a delightful tribute to Scrooge and Donald Duck.

2017 Scrooge McDuck and Donald Duck 10€ 22g Silver Coin: following in the footsteps of the New Zealand Mint, the Monnaie de Paris have produced their own dedication to these much adored Disney characters – the canny Uncle Scrooge McDuck and his more adorable, but less than canny, nephew Donald.

Scrooge McDuck is a fictional character created in 1947 by Carl Barks during his time as a work-for-hire for The Walt Disney Company. Scrooge is an elderly Scottishduck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He typically wears a red or blue frock coat, top hat, pince-nez glasses, and spats. He is portrayed in animations as speaking with a Scottish accent,also sometimes known as a Scottish burr. Named after Ebenezer Scrooge from the 1843 novel A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is a wealthy Scottish business magnate and tycoon whose dominant character trait is his thrift. He is the maternal uncle of Donald Duck, the grand-uncle of Huey, Dewey and Louie, and a usual financial backer of Gyro Gearloose. Within the context of the fictional Duck universe, he is the world’s richest person. His “Money Bin”—and indeed Scrooge himself—are often used as a humorous metonyms for great wealth in popular culture around the world. (Source Wikipedia)
