Nathan the Wise is a play published by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing in 1779. It is a plea for religious tolerance. This statue done by Adolf Jahn, turn of the 20th century, is 10 1/2" high x 6" deep. It is made of alabaster and marble and depicts the famous character Nathan the Wise. The centerpiece of the work is the ring, and the ring is an heirloom ring with magical powers and used as a parable in the story of the play.
