From a Tucson estate some years ago and a remembrance of some long ago visit to Northern Arizona (or perhaps purchased from one of the downtown fabled curio shops right here in the Old Pueblo) is this Navajo silver pendant with old style stamp work embellishment and a nice oval green turquoise set. The ornament has the appropriate visual charisma (read \"the look\"). It also falls within the broad genre of so-called Fred Harvey Southwestern jewelry crafted as a more wearable period alternative to tribal aesthetic jewelry. Here there are no walking dogs or arrow motifs - there are, however, clear elements of real tribal aesthetic. Weight is good for the form at about 6.5 grams on my portable digital scale. Condition is quite fine with an aura of time to the surfaces as seen in the pics. There is some verdigris from the silver solder used in the making to affix the twisted wire bezel framing. There are otherwise just typical and expected signs of period wearing about, here simply more evidence of the real thing. What would have been a simple silver ring suspension bale is an ancient loss here, though obviously easily replaced. I will do that job myself if it does not find a new home. A look at the pics should give a good idea of appearance and condition - a classic old pendant that will look great worn about in Santa Fe or wherever you live. Size is about 1 7/32 in. vertical (think 1 1/4 in.) and 1 in. across. Visible size of the turquoise stone is about 17.5mm x 12mm. If you prefer earlier 20th Century Southwestern tribal referenced silver adornment and especially Navajo Fred Harvey examples as a personal road less travelled, or simply wish this single immediate improvement to the ambiance of each day, this will have great meaning for you.
