Hand-painted miniature chest with a curved lid covered on all sides and under the lid with traditional Norwegian rosemaling. The chest is rounded flowers and feathery leaves. This chest is a beautifully proportioned miniature version of the large traditional rosepainted storage chests in the wooden log homes of rural Norway. The full-sized ones were prized possessions, filled with other prized possessions, bedding, coverlets, linens. Itinerant painters with the tools of their trade on their backs used to wander through the valleys of Norway leaving a trail of their works. There is a metal handle on the top. The painting is meticulous in its detail. The background is red, the most popular background color, and the decorations are done in strokes of green, yellow, green maroon, brown, gold and black.
