This is a Nathan AirChime K5HL train horn. It has been used on the BNSF and UP. It has been installed on new GE locomotives since 2004. The deep sounding 1L horn used for the K5HL is lower in pitch than most train horns. This gives the K5HL its distinctive sound. In 2004, AirChime began producing 5-chime K horns for US locomotives that made use of the low-pitched 1L bell, which plays C (261Hz).
K5HL horns have been installed on Union Pacific and BNSF GE locomotives.
Intended tuning is: C,D#,F#,A#,C (261, 311, 370, 470, 512 Hz)
The horn uses the K-series #1L, 1, 2, 3, and 4 bells.
This horn weighs 29 pounds. It is approximately 20 inches wide, 19 inches long, and 12 3/4 inches tall. The inlet is 1/2 inch pipe thread. The bolt holes in the flange are for 1/2 inch bolts with their centers on a 3 inch diameter circle.
