Native American Hopi Hand-CarvedKachina (aka Katsina) Doll ofSun God Tawa by John Fredericks (approximately 18\" tall)
For sale in this sale: a beautiful, hand-carved Hopi Kachina of Tawa, the Sun Spirit and Creator in Hopi mythology by John Fredericks.
Frederickssays that every piece of wood he works with already has a figure within it. He doesn’t carve, he just brings out the form that is already there. Long flowing lines, curves, and natural wood colors are the trademarks of his Hopi kachina dolls.
This Hopi Kachina Doll is over 30 years old and except for some dust, it is in excellent condition. The original owner had it on display over the years but it was always been kept out of direct sunlight and in a smoke-free home. It is approximately 18\" tall.
When thisKachinaDoll was taken to a museum in Santa Fe for appraisal, the owner was informed that this was the first sun god that John Fredericks ever carved. It is definitely unique.
