Southwestern Native American Indian turquoise thunderbird Sterling silver pendant, stamped STERLING, and signed VINCENT USA VJP (with an arrow bellow the artist\'s name), and stamped STERLING. “VJP” Vincent Joe Platero, Sr. was born in 1957, part ofthe Navajo Edgewater and Black Streak Clans, and learned silversmithing andjewelry making from his mother, Helen Chavez, most likely at an early age. Bythe 1970\'s his craft began catching the attention of many Native American artcollectors. Vincent is known for his strong stamp work, dragonfly and butterflypins, and concho belts adorned with rug patterns. He\'s currently a resident ofTohajiilee, New Mexico, where he has won awards at the New Mexico State Fair,and also the Denver Indian Market. Vincent selected a natural, blue-green, dome-shaped turquoise to adorn the bird\'s chest. The vibrant cabochon is set in a well-constructed smooth bezel on the bird-shaped silver sheet intricately stamped.The loop on the bird\'s head attaches to a nicely stamped bale. This pendant weighs 26.2 grams, and it\'s almost 3 1/4\" tall (including the bale and loop) by 2 3/16\" wide, and 2 1/4\" tall minus the loop and bale. The bale is approximately 7/8\" tall by 3/4\" wide. The stone alone is about 7/8\" tall by 3/4\" wide, at its widest point, from bezel to bezel. Exceptional stone and strong stamping by Vincent. Note: This pendant has some light scuffs on the stamped bird due to normal wear. Otherwise, it\'s in excellent condition. Picture #5 (bale and half stone) is the closest in color to the actual stone.
