Nakai jewelry is the most popular jewelry sold in the gift shops sold in theNative American owned casinos that encircle Albuquerque frequented primarilyby New Mexicans who know their Native American jewelry. At one time, the Nakai trading post shop produced many of the top qualityNative American jewelry items sold on one of the top home shopping channels until the shopping channel decided to import much of their \"Native American\" jewelry from China and began making doing business with their network unprofitable. Today, much of the so-called \"southwestern\" style jewelry sold on these channels is made in Pacific Rim sweatshops.

But the Chinese don\'t have Grace and Gilo Nakai\'s secret \"bombing\" process that removes the copper (copper is added toallsterling silver for added strength as silver is a soft metal) from near the surface. Why is this important, you ask :-) Over a period of time inbracelets of lesser quality, the small amount of copper in it begins to leech upward to the bracelet\'s surface causing the silver to develop a yellowish tinge quite exclusive from the natural tarnishing process that occurs with prolonged exposure to air. This \"bombing\" process significantly retards if not eliminating this problem altogether and gives the silver a more silvery finish.

Other sellers would have you believe that their special \"bombing\" process removesall thecopper from their silver. If that were true, which it isn\'t, the silver would be entirely too soft to use in jewelry.Onlythe copper near the surface -- which is what causes the yellowing -- is removed.

And then there are all the wannabe Nakais in central New Mexico who blatantly steal Nakai designs andchurn out inferior lookalikes which are marketed as \"upscale\" (LOL) Native American jewelry in this venue and in catalogswho shouldknow better. It\'s theNakaihallmark that\'s upscale,notthe copycats.

This traditional row or cluster cuff style bracelet done in original Nakai style features 22 round, oval, and freeform cabochon (domed) stones in mixed colors and varieties of old Morenci which is a rare valuable classic southwestern turquoise and Kingman turquoise ranging in size from about¼\" in diameter 1 and 1/16th by 15/16ths\" (center Kingman stone). The Morenci stone all have characteristic silver pyrite matrix in varying amounts. Nakai and their artist select their cluster bracelet stones very meticulous so that colors and matrix patterns combine to create a visually stunning piece of jewelry.The artist added randomly placed hand made sterling silver raindrop bead overlays among the stone which cover all but about 1\" on each end.

This cuff portion of this large bracelet -- the biggest Nakai makes -- is 1 and 5/16ths\" wide along the stone channelwide from terminal to terminal. It has an inside measurement of 5 and 7/8ths\" with avery carefully, one timeadjustable openingof 1¼”it suitable for wrists that are7\"to 7¼\"in circumference.
