This cult hook is from the Blackwater Lakesregion of the Sepik River in New Guinea.These cult hooks helped influence the outcome of war, hunting andcultivation of crops. The voice of theirspirit would also be heard through an intermediary. This cult hook is called a Yipwon which is asmaller version of the ones kept in the mens house. Note how the carver has used shirt buttons for the eyes
