North-Carolina

Issued Philadelphia, 1795 byBailey. Anon. engraver.

Scarce 18th century miniature state map, one of a small handful produced within the United States prior to 1800. Appeared within the first edition of the first gazetteer of the U.S. Longitude given with Philadelphia as prime meridian.

Counties are neither delineated nor named. The western part of the state is greatly diminished and distorted. The mountain ranges reveal an absence of settlement.* The S.W. Territory seen at left soon became the state of Tennessee.

Map displays offsetting as often seen due to the original folding format. Small scattered age-spotting, but overall an entirely acceptable example.

Original fold line(s) as issued, right side blank margin narrow as often seems to be the case.

Sheet measures c. 8\" x 6 1/2\"

Printedarea measures c. 7 1/4\" x 6\".
