Please see my other old swords I’ll be listing on thisweek and the next few weeks.

This is an oldTulwar or Talwar sword likely from the 1800’s or earlier?

The overalllength of the sword is 35-1/2”

The blade lengthis about 30” measuring along the spine.

At the base is alittle under 1-1/4” wide and about ¼” thick.

This sword issolid and not ornate, it was meant for battle and not for show or parades.

The blade is handforged with a few visible fold marks. There appears to be a light pattern inthe blade, which could be a Damascus steel. (please see the pictures)

The blade issmooth although the pattern of darker and lighter steel makes it look heavilypitted in the pictures. The blade has a great dark patina to it, showing itsage. The edge is sharp although slightly rough, but there are not any majornicks in it. There is one 1/8” long flat spot or dent in the edge about 1/3 ofthe way from the tip.

The steel handleis corroded and has pitting. The handle has slight movement but feels prettysolid. It appears to have its original tar or pitch that hardens like cement tohold the blade in.

There is not ascabbard with this sword.

This is not a decorative piece, this sword was meant for use in battle and is a great piece of history.

Tulwar-

The talwar was used by bothcavalry and infantry and originated alongside other curved swords suchas the Arab saif, the Persian shamshir, the Turkish kilij, and the Afghanpulwar, all such swords being originally derived from earlier curved swordsdeveloped in Turkic Central Asia. The use of talwar became more widespreadunder the Mughals, who were of Turko-Mongol origins and is found in India,Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
