Up for sale is a mid 19th century French Boulle (boule) tea caddy with 2 compartments or sections. This beautiful box has fancy Boulle work* on the top and around the brass lock, which has its original working key. The box is a black lacquered wood with intricate and exquisite fancy brass work interspersed with faux tortoiseshell inlay. There is a monogram plate in the center of the lid which has not been engraved. There are inlaid brass lines around the box as well. The tea caddy has 2 compartments, each lined with the original silver foil and original mahogany finials on each lid.Age: 1840-1860
Size: 9 1/2\" x 5\" x 4 3/4\"f
Condition: puckering and several cracks to faux tortoiseshell; surface of box itself is rough in spots with mars and scratches; brass accent lines are rippled and not flush in spots.
PLEASE NOTE: the two lids shown are internal lids, which press down on the tea and seal the compartment hermetically.
