THE HISTORY OF THE EGGCHAIR

TheEggis a chair designed byArne Jacobsenin1958 for theRadisson SAShotel inCopenhagen,Denmark. Itis manufactured byRepublic of Fritz Hansen.

The Egg was designed in a typical Jacobsen style, usingstate-of-the-art material. It is believed to be inspired byEeroSaarinen\'s \"Womb chair\", from which it borrows some traits. Relatedto the Egg is theSwan chairand, to some degree, many of Jacobsen\'splywood chairs such as \"7\", the Ant, the Cigar, the Grand Prix-chair,the Pot, the Drop and the Giraffe. The Egg (like the Swan) was also designed asa couch. While the Swan couch is still in production, only a handful of Eggcouches have ever been made. A few were made for the Radisson Hotel, and a fewyears back, some were made as a \"special edition\" couch.

The price was quite high — about 400 000DKK, the equivalent ofroughly 75 000USD. The reason for the limited production of the Egg couch,besides the wish for exclusivity, is the difficulty involved in making it, plusa design flaw: the couch is too big to be covered by two entire cow-hides,which is only just possible with the Egg-chair. This leaves a very visiblestitching down the middle of the couch. This problem can, however, be solved bymaking the upholstery in fabric rather than leather.

Among other furniture by Arne Jacobsen, although some areimitations. It was used as the diaryroom chair in the first UK series of \"Big Brother\". The newlyrenovatedTerminal 2at San Francisco International Airport features theEgg in its boarding area. Now there are hundreds of different types of eggchairs andhanging egg chairsinspired by Arne Jacobsen\'s design.

We accept payment via card at thewarehouse on the day of collection, PayPal or bacs prior to collection

We would kindly ask that allitems are paid for within 48 hours and collected within 7 working days, we canhold all paid items for 14 days free of charge, there after there is a £10 aweek storage fee, please ask before purchase should you wish us to holdsomething for longer than two weeks, if after six months your item isn’tcollected you will forfeit your payment and the item will be placed for saleagain

Please note vintage period andoriginal items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in theform of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure nomoisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in directsunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade

Your invoice will be sent withzero balance in the delivery section, this is because all delivery fees arepaid directly to the courier company to keep your costs down, if we charge youthrough we have to add and paypal fees, vat and other taxes to makesure the courier company are paid the exact amount they charge

We can arrange deliverynationwide, mostly with Wimbledon couriers, for the very far North and South weuse KDM couriers, for Europe we use Anyvan to find the cheapest quote, for therest of the world it is location specific

Whoever delivers will usuallyrequire some help on the larger items to unload, if this is not possible pleaselet us know as it will affect the price to send a two man team

Delivery is to the ground flooronly, again if you need help upstairs or in flats etc that\'s absolutely not aproblem, the couriers charge £10 per flight per man per item, if you have aworking elevator then naturally there’s no additional fee

All courier fees are paid byyourself directly to the courier company, the contract for delivery is betweenyourselves the client and whichever courier you chose from those available

I’m happy to accommodate your owncourier after a cleared payment has been received, they need to book in acollection time with at least 24 hour’s notice, all collections must be madewithin 14 working days of the close of the sale unless agreed by priorarrangement

INTERNATIONAL

Delivery time can take two tothree weeks depending on the courier’s routes for the above mentioned countries
