ORIGINAL - LARGE CIVIL WAR NEWSPAPER BATTLE OF SHILOH ART 1862 Up for sale is an original full page sized Civil War newspaper art print of Union artillery at Pittsburgh landing during the Battle of Shiloh. The Battle of Shiloh was a critical battle in the Western campaign of Ulysses S. Grant in securing the other half of the country for the Union forces. At the time it was fought, Shiloh was the single bloodiest battle in the war. This specific depiction shows a group of artilleryman during the Unions hasty defense of Pittsburgh landing. Awaiting reinforcements and holding back waves of Confederate troops, the Union soldiers bravely stood their ground until more men could arrive to push the rebels back for good. This heroic defense is shown in the chaos amidst battle. The newspaper is in pretty good condition with only minor tears around the sides (seen in picture). For 150 years old, the ink has held its color very well and shows the intricate details of the original drawing. We were not able to find the exact newspaper it was from but we do know it was created by a German immigrant to the United States who reported on the war heavily. This historic piece of art shows the valor of the Union troops and would look great framed in the collection of any Civil War or Military history buff.
