DescriptionThis isan ORIGINALandVERY RAREwrist watch issued to USMC personnel during WWII and on into Korea. The watch was manufactured by Hamilton for the Marine Corps and is similar in type to those \"OF-\" watches made for the Army\'s Ordnance Department. The \"OF\" was the designation for watches having 15-17 jewels ina \"waterproof\" screw back case. Although Marine-marked watches are rare in themselves (the USMC was the smallest of the WWII services, aside from the Coast Guard), the watch is all the more rare due to the fact that it is a Hamilton watch. Most of Hamilton\'s superb craftsmanship was devoted to naval chronometers, rather than wrist watches, at the insistence of the Navy.
The watch has a black dial with asecond\"bit\" at the \"6\" position and what appear to be radium-painted numerals. The watch hasa Grade 987A 17-jewel movement which Hamilton typically used in all its military watches. The watch is in good running order and has been running 12-hours and keeping good time when these photographs were taken. The movement is cased in a Keystone Company screw back case with an internal dust cover over the movement. The watch has the typical USMC stampings on the back (see image below), which reads as follows: \"USMC/OF-753962\". The case is in very good condition with the minor scratches to be expectedon a 70+ year-old watch, which probably saw combat. The dial and handsare in very good condition, with the usual \"toning\" to the numerals and hands. The watch has the standard issue two-piece green band with golden yellow stitching which is typically found on Hamilton watches of WWII.
