ORNATE LARGE 19TH CENTURY GOLD GESSO and WOOD PICTURE FRAME
This lovely originalantique picture frame is a fantastic quality piece with loads ofcharacter. It is very pleasing to the eye and would grace any wall withthe right picture it deserves. The picture shown in the frame isincluded but can be easily replaced. Based on its style, appearance andconstruction, I estimate this frame was built between 1850 and 1900. Ihave no way to be certain of its actual age as this frame came from an estatesale that I purchased on sale.
This is a superbly designedand all original large antique picture frame with exquisite gesso borderdetailing and, with what I believe to be, gilt edging surrounding the picture.It appears a highly skilled craftsman constructed this beautiful frame byusing heavy sturdy wood overlaid with elaborately carved and pierced gessofloral and acanthus detailing painted in a strikingly rich golden brown color.The frame is ready for hanging with the included glass glazing and therear eyelets and hanging cable.
The frame is sturdy withvery solid corner joints. The frame has a lightly worn patina in placeswhich includes general surface wear, scuffs, scratches and other slightimperfections commensurate to its age. There are several small hairlinecracks in the gesso molding, but the gesso is still very much intact and in anice tight condition. Please refer to the detailed photographs asthey are an accurate reflection of the very good antique condition.
Theframe measures approximately30-1/4”W X 28”HX 3”D to fit a pictureapproximately 19-1/4”W X 17”H and provides a visual picture image sizeofapproximately 18-1/4”W X 16”H.
