Personal Israel army soldier Dog Tags.

The new Israeli army organized itself during the1948 War of Independence and did not have a standard official dog tag for theirsoldiers. Some service personnel were issued a round metal identity disks, whichwere hand stamped with some ID info: name or service number or both. Some unitswere issued a unique set with one octagonal shaped disc and a round disc, whichare similar to those issued by the British Military in WW2. The identity diskswere worn around the neck on a 38\" length of cotton cord. One tag wassuspended below the main tag.

The metal tags are engraved in Hebrew: the largedisk has the name of the soldier:

לוין אליעזר

(EliezerLevin) and his blood type: A withthe word blood in Hebrew: דם

The small disk is engraved with his ID number:

17429

and his blood type: A with the word blood in Hebrew: דם

This tag set unique because most dog tags had only the ID numberwithout the name.

The itemis in good condition, showing some age that isto be expected inavintage piece - but nothing that detractsfrom its beauty.

Size: thelarge round tag is 3.5 cmin diameter and the small tag is 2.8 cm in diameter.
