Vibrant blue with black spiderweb turquoise domed cab, probably Kingman, purchased from pawn in Gallup, NM, in the mid-1980, probably made 1970s or early 1980s. The eye-catching stone measures 15/16 inches long and 11/16 inches wide firmly held in serrated bezel. The pendant weighs 10.75 grams (or a little more than two U.S. quarters).

The traditionally designed sterling frame features silver pearls characteristic of many of Lucy C-signed pendants, bracelets, and rings. Some experts believe this signature represents Navajo Lucy Coonis. But although the Lucy C hallmark has a place in many vintage native American jewelry collections, we could find no definitive documentation of the artist\'s last name. This piece also features intricate filework and a rope border around the bezel.

The back of the bezel has normal patina and a smooth, thumb-print size indentation on the lower two thirds of the bezel back (it was there when we bought it). The only other flaw (see photos) is a small indentation in the bezel (and probably the stone) at the lower left of the bezel, at approximately 8 o\'clock. It, too, was there when we bought it. From about 12 inches away, it is extremely difficult to see the indentation. The sterling silver work is high quality and the blue-blue stone appears gem quality (white spot on photos is light reflection -- there is no white in this turquoise). The cab is domed and is very hard; under magnification appears untreated (some small natural surface irregularities are visible in a small number of the spiderwebs).

The unadorned, well-made sterling silver bail is 3/8 inches tall and will accommodate 5-6mm Navajo pearls or other wide chain. It is also unsoldered at the closure of the loop so can easily by hung on Navajo pearls by slightly opening the bail.
