Once the final shape was achieved it was then sanded with progressively finer grits of sandpaper all the way up to 1200-grit. Then it was buffed first with a rouge compound to really bring up the shine. This pen uses a high quality Schmidt ball refill. The refill can be removed by unscrewing the pen cap.
