One-pocket billiard book Shots Moves & Strategies seller is author, Eddie Robin :
$158.71

I apologize to those who have made overly generous offers on the recent $225 Shots, Moves, & Strategies book for I had no intention of selling the book for more than $160. I screwed up on the text for that sale and so didn\'t accept your higher offers for it was meant to include my critique of fundamentals. I\'d mistakenly left my original sale description there all this time! I\'d long ago decided to keep the price of these SMS books at around $158 until almost fully out of my leftover books just as I had done with Winning One-Pocket and Position Play. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused. The person that had wound up ending that sale for the buy-it-now price of $225 will be receiving a refund check along with the book.

Special Offer to Buyer You may email me within week of receiving book with questions as to how best improve your level of play.

My well-packaged books are shipped insured; if box should arrive punctured or severely damaged please open with USPS agent.

For an extra SMS! Pay additional $123 via PayPal (by way of \" item\" or \"goods\") to get a 2nd SMS book included in same pkg.

Rare SMS book for sale! Pay additional $75 to replace regular SMS with a genuine bonded-leather 6 co-authors\' signature edition.

sale Overview: As author and self-publisher, though others have repeated versions of what I\'d written earlier, I\'m proudly claiming that thisSHOTS, MOVES, & STRATEGIES -- as taught by the game’s greatest players(SMS)is still easily the best and most comprehensive ever published on the shots, moves, and strategies of the one-pocket game; it illustrates hundreds of moves needed for professional levels of play. Some have thought certain shots in my book are simply too risky; I\'ve proven many times already that this will only occur when one\'s ability to execute is less than professional level or, and this is quite common even among pros, the player lacks sufficient knowledge of whichever happens to be the most appropriate method, system, or technique for the shot in question. Many photos and illust., 328 total pages, Apr 1996.This sale isof a single,1996 editionSMS leftover from when I went out of business in 1997; this SMS book, however,is still in its NEW EXCELLENT CONDITION. This book has not previously been evenopened, and so, though a leftover from when published inlate 90s,it can still beconsidered as new.

Description of thisSMS Book: This hard-to-find out-of-print, 3lb, 8.5x11 format, hardcover, one-pocket book has a great many photos. As per 1996 billiard mag reviews; as with the first book of the set,WINNING ONE-POCKET -- as taught by the game’s greatest players(W1P),the SMS book may be the ‘’finest billiard instructional book ever.’’ The SMS continues from where the W1P left off with \"shots, moves, and strategies. Author, book designer, and publisher, Eddie Robin, as with W1P, created this SMS book with helpfrom six co-authors; all six have won multiple national and/or world titles. Many have asked if there weresubsequent editions or printings of thiswork; no, no, no! There wasno need for a second printing or second edition for, unlike thefirst-edition of the W1P book, the SMS bookwas not full of errors resulting from a printer\'s faultyconversion program.

Rumors Re Extra Printings: I can\'t do much about rumors re extra printingsfor there are a bunch of unethical people in our billiard world who will spread them (possiblyin effort to decrease the value of my books)and they seem to haveassociates behind user names to back up whateverrumors they wish to spread. Many have insinuated that there weremore printings of this SMS book. No, there was just the original printing of around 3,500 SMS books (approx 250 were later stolen along with even more W1Ps and had almost 500 of various titleswater damaged when storage unit was flooded). There was but one printing of the P3C books as well (around 2,500) but some of those seemed different from bindery running out of the covering material; replacement covering material was slightly different in color and texture. The only 2nd printing ever done on any of my books was around1999 or 2000 with W1P books, and that very short run simply made up for most of the W1Ps stolen when I was in Phoenix and those damaged in a flash flood in Las Vegas. Truth has a way of getting out with time and sooner or later those spreading rumors will become more and more obvious to all. Shame for such rumor mongerers cause such damage to the billiard world andit takes so long for them to be sufficiently recognized for so many others, from insufficient logic, simply believe much of whatever is said and writtenif it happens to be agreed upon by others like themselves.

W1P or SMS; Which Book Best: On different subject, I\'d recently seen posts online re which of my one-pocket booksis best. I should know them as well as anybody and even I just can\'t answer that in a single sentence or two. Either of them can be considered best depending on how well you play, your style of play, how much you might care about entertainment, knowledge, billiard history, etc., etc., etc. I\'m proud of how I\'d quickly managed to learn a lot about position play in 3-cushion, but that P3C book (hope to publish its revision and brother books someday) was the easiest for me except forthe need forhundreds of diagrams done by hand (rapid-o-graph pens, circular labels, etc.).The writing of that book to point of semi-final drafttook just three days. That book, as with the one-pocket books and all my intended books, is just the first of a series on its subject matter. To get back to the point of which book is best, Squirrel Carpenter was once adamant as to how the SMS book was far superior to the W1P book. I understood why he\'d thought that andprovided my opinion that, whereas professional-level players won\'t learn as much from W1P, the weaker players will learn much more from it and so consider that book to be the better of the two. Anyway, from what I\'ve recently read on AZB\'s forum, it seems I\'d hit that nail on the head!

SupposedAttempts to Make Books Seem Scarce: My books are scarce and will certainly become more and more scarce untilseveral monthsfrom the day I somehow can get financed to get back into the publishing business. Wish they weren\'t scarce; I\'m now attempting to make my way with help from but one title; SMS books are all I have left. Other titles sold out and I have been communicating that for a verylong time already! ThoughI used to be ableto buy back books for purposes of resellingsuch opportunities have not been availablefor several years already.

Tactics to Increase Value of My Books: Guess almost anybody selling a product would want to increase the value or demand for that product. It so happens that I\'d felt so bad about the high cost of my books and how most can\'t afford them when my books were being sold in years past by others for $400 to $700 each that I\'d purposely brought the prices down by refusing to sell the P3Cs for more than $300 ($325 when had about 6 left) and refused to sell the W1Ps for more than $225 though I\'d been offered more many times back then. I\'m the one thatforced market value of my books down and I now have to put up with rumors as to how I\'ve used dirty tricks to increase their value! People not having to use their real names tend to be a bit more responsible than most for the bulk of unethical conduct in our billiard world! I\'ve often sold books for less than what I\'d been offered from not wishing to take advantage of a buyer. I\'ve given dozens of unrequested refunds and often included checks for $10, $15, and sometimes $20, placing them inside the front covers of books when shipped tocustomers who had paid more than what I\'d considered fair at the time. Please go by your own experience, knowledge, and logic instead of just going along with rumors no matter how popular such rumors get or how they come from supposed authorities such as writers of billiard books, columns, or posts on forums. (Also true of our media re gov. leaders, candidates, etc. Understand this or we\'ll never get our country back on track with our constitution.) It\'s has long since been proven that, with sufficient agreement,a great many will believe the world flat despite thousands watching their fishing boats disappear little by little \'til the tip of the tallest sail finally dips over the horizon. Just found a quote I\'d read months ago supposedly by Hitler\'s PR guy, Goebbels;\"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.\" Well, lies about me have been repeated and repeated and repeated and so I do understand why many of you can\'t tell the white hats from the black. Hope concerned parties wake up sooner rather than later!

Eddie Robin &Twelve Co-Authors: After his first book, Position Play in 3-Cushion Billiards, Eddie decidedon six differentco-authors for all future books. Co-authors for the SMS book are as follows: Marshall \"Squirrel\" Carpenter, Steve \"Monster\" Cook, Shannon \"Cannon\" Daulton, Jimmy \"Flash\" Fusco, Billy \"Mustache\" Incardona, and Larry \"Boston Shorty\" Johnson (co-authors for the W1P book: Jack \"Jersey Red\" Breit, Ed \"Champagne Eddie\" Kelly, Grady \"Professor\" Mathews, Leonard \"Chicago Bugs\" Rucker, Bill \"Weenie Beanie\" Staton, Eddie \"Knoxville Bear\" Taylor).

About Robin\'s Books: My instructional bookshave been on how specific billiard games should be played and soare intended for above-average playersas arethe games of one-pocketand three-cushion billiards for example. Lower-level pool and carom playersare advised to first well learn fundamentals and attain some expertise at either 14.1 (straight-pool) or simple caroms (straight-rail billiards) previous to taking up one of the other of the various billiard disciplines. Though I may never succeed at getting back into publishing more titles I\'ve not given up. I dointend to eventually publish books on various other billiard games as well as some bookson the most basic of billiard fundamentals. As for these one-pocket books, they are widely considered an absolute must forthe more accomplished players; if skeptical, just ask a few who actually own one.

I\'m truly sorry that I\'ve not yet provided the billiard world with what it really needs most (good books on basics as well as advanced fundamentals) and I do often get calls or emails from those realizing a need for increased abilities to execute; though I do attempt to put such students of the game in a more correct direction and help them with whatever may be considered their main weakness or barrier to improvement please realize that I just can\'t afford to continue as I have in providing tech in the absence of fair exchange. I suggest to all, no matter their level of play, to go for my $60 critique of fundamentals; it is done by phone upon completion of my study of your video of 9 shots (you\'ll be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement).

One-Pocket Books; their History & Purpose: This first and only edition of the SMS book and the secondedition of W1P were bothpreparedby 1996 and produced in 1997. This SMS, thebook currently up for sale, is the second of the originally planned three-book set on one-pocket. It wasintended for knowledgeable and even pro-level players who have well learned basics of one-pocket fromthe first book, the W1P book. The SMSwould most likely be valued at least equal to even the highlyprized W1Ps hadit been the one to be read first and to go out-of-print first as will be realized after I\'ve run out of them. (It is still intended that the third of the one-pocket set, which had been near completion since the late 1990s, will eventually be published ... all I need is $$$.)

Purchasing, Terms, Payments, Shipping:PayPal method of paymentis due 3 daysfrom completion dateof commitment. All shippingwill be by way of theUnited States Postal Service (USPS) andwill beUSPS 3-day Priority-Mail; yes, shipping and handling is FREE if to anywhere USA. (Iforder multiple copies, packages of 3 to 6 books to anywhereUSAwill be sent media-rate. Handling charges for International shipping is normally $10 extra but, depending on destination, possibly even $20.)

Why W1P had been Priced Higher: Whereas the W1P book lays the foundation, the SMS book focuses completely on strategies for the advanced player. Most assume the W1Pbook as being superior tothe SMS mostly because ofits higher cost and partially because of how the SMS, rather than repeating explanations found in W1P, assumes reader has already learned from that earlier book. Actually, approximatelythe same number of each were manufactured, sold, and/or saleed off.Market value of W1Pincreased sooner simply because of howit came first and became scarce years earlier.

Continually Increasing Prices Reversed:You may have noticedthat othershave saleed used, worn, or damaged books for as much as $300, $400, $500,and evenhigher. In effort to prevent their cost fromreachingridiculous pricesfor non-vintageinstructional billiard books, I\'ve reversed thatcontinual increase in value by sellingmy leftoverbooks atfar lower prices.Though admittedly still expensive, I\'vestill got the SMS booksbelow the $200 mark andintend tokeep them there until they are also sold out.

Return Policy: If box arrives damaged, open in the presence of a USPS employee and get something in writing from that agent to facilitate insurance payment. Book arriving in damaged condition is extremely unlikely as a great many response compliments received since the 90s attest to how well I package these books. Only one book arrived damaged since then but that was from my error in placing too many books in a single large box and a corner got slightly bent when that very heavy box was dropped. That mistake had not been repeated!

About the Author: Eddie Robin, had rapid improvement from month or so before leaving NYC for the \"road\" and Chicago in 1963 as a 2nd-rate 3-cushion player and 3rd-rate pool playerbut played top-notch pool and 3-cushion nearly as good previous tofully quittingall forms of billiardsto study andtrain for casino industry just one year later.Though having never entered any pooltournaments, his best games were actually one-pocket, 9-ball, 14.1, and 3-cushion in around that sequence. It was 5 years later, in 1969,as anaccomplished craps dealer at the Las Vegas Sahara Hotel, he’d taken up the cue once again upon learning thatthe Sahara Hotel-Casino was to host the USA’s first truly International 3-CushionTournamentto determine a1970 World Champion. In his first year of tournament play, as one of only two North-American players having managed to qualifyfor that world tournament, Eddiehad becomerecognized as an accomplished3-cushion playerupon his 60-58 win, averaging almost 1.3, over defending world champion and all-time greatest, Raymond Ceulemans. Whereas Eddie became pretty good at 3-cushion first (1962-1963), most didn\'t even knowEddie was actually better at pocket-billiards when he quit in 1964; may have also reached top level in 3-cushion if had played that game another year. As per May 1970 National Billiard News article re that event, rather than for his previously easily higher level of play at pool, Eddie was now considereda 3-cushion player. Despite a relatively few years ofexperience andjust a fewmonthsat national-level play, Eddie nevertheless amassed a surprisingly vast knowledge of the various pool and billiard disciplines; this is without question as his wins and writingscertainly bear out.

Havinghung up his cuewhile still rapidly improving, obviously well before reaching his peak at either pool or billiards, Eddie became wellknown upon hispublishing ofthe finest instructional books onour sport; finest because of their effectas well asfrom consensus of opinion! Never had averages of 3-cushion players increased as rapidly as they did soon afterhis publication ofP3C (FYI: 2-inch slates and fast tables had been around inmost parts of the billiard world for many years and the Simonis No. 1 cloth of the 30s and early 40s was identical in all ways to the quite speedy\"extra super-roulant\" cloth of the early 70s). The secrets were now out and the increased knowledge of position play was the main difference though aided somewhat by increased shot repertoires resulting partially from the continually increased speeds of tables. Take the W1P book for example; whereas the one-pocketgame was rated between zero and 2% in popularity polls in billiard magazines of the late ‘80s andthe game closer to extinction with each passing year, despite several years of Grady\'s one-pocket tournaments to promote the game. However, the gamewas foundwell on its way to its current status soon after publication ofW1P\'s first editionin 1993, and even morefully on its waybut two months afterpublication of the SMS book. The late 1980 to 1992 polls tell it how it really happened. Eddiewishes to acknowledgethe fact that the Grady Mathews one-pockettournaments of late 80s and early 90s may well have been what kept the one-pocket game from going fully extinct back then and that the current billiard forums (OnePocket.org and AZbilliards) have helped to continue the one-pocket game\'s trend in popularityin the more recent years.

Inscription If Requested: In addition to the gold-foil stamping seen on scan for this sale, book(s) will arrive with signature of author and publisher, Eddie Robin, in silver-metallic ink on front cover as well. If requested with or previous to payment, he’ll be pleased to also add (inside the front cover) a signed and dated comment, short note of congratulations, well wishes, happy birthday, suggestions, or advice at no extra charge.

Evaluation/Critique Session: This $60 critique of basicsis done by phone, but if student is accepted and, depending on the student\'s needs, emails may be sent as well. Interested parties must firstsend a 3-minute video ofthemselves shooting 9 shots as per Eddie\'s directions (12 shots if by a very straight shooter). If interested, winner of sale should request the page ofinstructions for the \"video-critique\" within two weeks of purchase date. As with his other products, you may be quite certain of getting far more than your money\'s worth with this critique!

We\'reconfident you\'ll find yourself referring backto this book and treasuring it for years to come. Thanks foryour interestand good luckon yourofferding.

Many thanks for looking and best of luck on your offerding--Eddie Robin
