orig. relic wood from USS NIAGARA War of 1812 BATTLE OF LAKE ERIE Oliver Hazard :
$120.49

For sale is a handsome slab of wood from the original USS Niagara, which was commanded by Oliver Hazard Perry in the famous Naval battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. According to a typewritten paper on the piece of wood, this \"lay on the bottom of\" Lake Erie for almost 100 years. As the ship was scuttled in 1820, it would mean that this relic was collected from the ship some time before 1920, possibly in 1913, when the ship was raised and restored for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie. The paper on the relic has some insect bites, but the wood is still in decent shape. The battle was one of the first great Naval victories in American history, insuring that the US controlled Lake Erie for the duration of the war. It also allowed it to recover Detroit and win the Battle of the Thames. Relic is fresh to the market from a Washington D.C. collection. Please email any questions!
