All sell !Grapefruit Moon Gallery is excited to announce that we have come into an impressive collection of autographs, letters, original illustrations, and ephemera by a wide array of cartoonists and illustrators. From the personal collection of Earl Barton, an avid collector who spent decades building a unique collection of individualized drawings and correspondence from leading lights in cartooning.
Nicknamed the \"most original pest\" by cartoonist A.V. Buel, Barton amassed much of his collection by sending letters of requests for autographs & original illustrations straight to the artists themselves. To make sure his letters made it past secretaries and avoided going straight into the waste basket, Barton would draw a cartoon of his own on the envelope accompanied by a caption, thinking that \"what isn\'t hard to request isn\'t hard to give.\" This method proved successful and Barton had autographs and original illustrations from such artists as D. Jay Darling, George T. Maxwell and John T. McCutcheon of the Chicago Tribune as well as James Montgomery Flagg, Norman Rockwell, Arthur William Brown, Edwina Dunn, and Walt Disney, to name just a few. We will be saleing off these illustrations, letters, autographs, newspapers clippings and photos in the coming weeks and months. It\'s a unique chance for collectors of illustration art to own these one of a kind items!ITEM: This is a c. 1930s vintage & original cartoon illustration, India ink on illustration board, signed by the artist Goodhue in the bottom right corner, and including the original caption.
