Original Antique Parrying Shield / Club or Qauata from Solomon Islands

This is rare and exciting opportunity to own an original and authentic Parrying club, also known as a Qauata, Roromaraugi or Parrying Shield, from the Solomon Islands.

The club has been verified as authentic by one of the leading authorities on tribal art in the UK (further details on request) my number is 07824 372703 (feel free to text or call).

The same expert has estimated that the club is late 1800\'s or early 1900\'s.

The item was a loft find and it was found with other antique items including a 9ct gold collared umbrella which is hallmarked London, 1911 and engraved with the following:

\"C.W.

STILLINGTON

While we don’t know the identity of the individual it is possible this person was a wealthy or well-connected individual who spent time in the Solomon Islands during travel, with the army or as function of the British Empire before he purchased the \"fox paragon\" umbrella made for his life in the city. Bromley was a wealthy area within commuting distance of the city.

This is speculation but this type of history could fit with the objects.

Regarding the authenticity of the club it has been confirmed as original Solomon Islands and I will accept valid returns. Any returns will be be accepted at my cost if the buyer has credible evidence that the item is not genuine or was made later than 1950.

You may ask why I\'m not selling in a specialist sale and it simply comes down to buyers premiums which are often very high at these sales.

There are some other things to note in relation to the club. It is smaller than most Parrying clubs (length of handle around 53cm). This appears to be very rare and as yet no one has offered an explanation for this. I can only assume that this was a more portable club or was the property of a younger smaller individual. However is has lost several cm\'s due to the wear/damage on the lower point.

I am happy to accept viewings at my home in Ascot from serious buyers as well as take calls and send further pictures for people by email.

For those who aren\'t familiar with these rare tribal art objects here is some more general information about the background and History:

These iconic weapons are a fighting club and shield which can be used to strike or deflect. They were also used in rituals historically but this tradition slowed during the 20th Century.

The \"W\" shape is often thought to represent the frigate bird which led fishermen to fish and was respected as an important assistance to catching an essential food source. It has also been mentioned that this could represent the gaping mouth of predatory fish.

The shape of the blade could also symbolize the beak of a bird.

I have read that its almost impossible to find an antique example that doesn\'t have damage due to the way they were used.

Please offer with confidence. The Club will be very well packed in a strong box with padding and delivered with a reputable postal or courier service with full insurance.

Also if you would like to buy the umbrella along with the club this can be included for £85 extra. Please just message me for further info.

Delivery by hand can be arranged by request for 35p per mile from Ascot and free collection from Ascot UK is welcome.
