This unusual and stylish Art Nouveau brass and iridescent glass table or wall lamp was made in about 1900. The oil spot Loetz type glass shade is most likely by Pallme Koenig or Kralik. The lamp is cleverly designed with a gimble so that the shade can rotate and be used either as a table lamp or wall lamp. The brass base has a great orgainc stylised whiplash form.

It measures 11inches x 6 inches and is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. It has been rewired and is PAT tested to conform with UK standards.

Background information: At the same time that in the USA Louis Comfort Tiffany was developing and advancing the art glass movement, the Loetz factory was also experimenting with iridescent glass in Austria. Whilst Emile Galle and Rene Lalique were probably the leading exponents of Art Nouveau and Art Deco artistic glass in Europe, the Loetz factory employed many of the top designers and architects, particularly from the Wiener Werkstatte and were masters of the avant-garde. Although Loetz has traditionally overshadowed the Pallme Koenig, Rindskopf and Kralik glass houses this is to some extent a result of decades of misattribution. In recent years many pieces in important Loetz collections have been reattributed to the latter factories. In terms of quality they stand happily alongside Loetz and these factories and their output are being reassessed and recognised for the true qualities they have.
