Beautiful example of an original Civil War officers purchased Forage Cap. The liner is complete, sweat band is stiff, appears to be an oilcloth material, It has Virginia State buttons on the chin Strap, I cant quite figure that out, but they are original and present when I got this piece. It does look like other buttons were sewn in at one time as thread is present adjacent to the Virginia State buttons, and the fading appears to show where the chinstrap had been at one point.
