This is a very nice pair of post Civil War binoculars. It is difficult to date these because they were made like this up to the turn of the century. The maker is French and that indicates quality as the French were experts in this type of optics. Lemaire Fabt. Paris is on the upper lens. The focusing wheel moves very smoothly and the sunshades move up and down about 1 inch before they get tight. The brown leather covering is original to the piece. These would make a great re-enacting piece as they are as solid today as they were when they were made and look exactly like many Civil War period binoculars. As far as collectables go, they would grace any display.
