Up for offer is an original 19th Century United States militia cavalry type sword. The sword is probably a state contract militia sword dating to the 1810-1820 era or so. The sword measures 32.5 inches in total length while in the scabbard. The curved blade alone measures 28 inches measuring along a straight line. The guard is made of brass. The sword is in solid period used condition with some oxidation and light pitting in areas. The blade is solid shape considering the age with some areas of dark oxidation and light pitting mainly towards the tip. There are a few minor forging flaws on the blade, typical of American manufacture of the era. The blade has been polished at some point. The brass guard is nice with some period wear and a very nice age patina. The wooden handle is in nice shape with a nice old patina. The sword is fairly tight with some very slight play between guard and blade but nothing major at all. The leather and wire wrap on the handle are missing (if it ever had any). The leather scabbard is very solid with some period wear and leather crazing in areas. There is some slight leather age shrinkage on scabbard with a very small gap between throat and hilt. The throat could be moved up a hair to compensate, but I didn\'t want to fool with it as it is minor and does not affect the display appeal of the sword.Neat old sword and guaranteed 100% authentic in every regard.
