Outstanding & huge 35cm long Victorian SILVER SERVING TONGS, Exeter 1864 SPRING:

We are offering for sale a very rare and excellentquality pair of large silver serving tongs.

At 35cm long, these mid Victorian tongs are enormous. They have a filled, florally decorated handle and a sprung set of serving arms. The top is beautifully pierced and engraved and has a retaining lip to the end. When the thumbpiece on top of the top arms is depressed the arms open and releasing them grips the food being served. The tongs would be ideal for asparagus or for serving salads, meat cuts etc.

These are a very unusual style of serving tongs and are fully hallmarked for the Exeter assay office. They havea good hefty weight, benefit from having no presonalised engravings and are in fine condition throughout.

These tongs were tricky to photograph to show them at their best - they are even better than the photos suggest!
