Description....I am pleased to offer this fine and very large pair of mid 19c Chinese export cinnabar lacquer \'GU\' style vases in the period bright red color and amazing deeply carved figural scenes with expertly executed details. These vases were produced in the height of the China Trade period during the mid 19c or around the 1850s and are part of a small collection of other fine cinnabar pieces I will be listing soon here on . This style of cinnabar vases are of a small percentage compared to the other types seen made during this period and these are not only of a high quality but are of a large size being 14\" in height with extremely deep relief most likely having up to 350 to 400 individual coats of hand applied lacquer. Each vase has different scenes in the panels to the upper necks showing various flower groupings along with rockery and floral scrolls, then the large mid sections are also completely different on both vases depicting small groups of figures shown in outdoor scenes with a variety of trees, shrubs, boulders and many variations of geometric background patterns and the bottom sections are performed in the same manner with a central lotus seed pod flower and surrounded by more floral scrolls as the neck. The inside and underside are finished in a traditional black lacquer with the surfaces showing a aged patina with a rich appearance. I am offering this pair at a \'Buy It Now\' of a very fair market price so if you collect Chinese export antiques or are a lover of lacquer or carved cinnabar then don\'t miss this pair!
Condition...Excellent with only very light surface and minor age related wear with some tiny edge chips and could use a bit of a clean if so desired, but there is no damage, repairs, losses or problems of any kind as the only other thing I noticed is that the black lacquer inside and bottom areas have been restored at one time which after that many years most cinnabar pieces generally are in need of it anyways, otherwise they are extremely nice.
