Movement size 18.This classic pocket watch from 1910 to 1920 does not work. Feels overwound. Movement size 18. The case is overall in great shape. The pieces all screw open and close nicely. It is stem set with set button that is working. Could use a professionals touch. A great pocket watch from the early 20th century.
The following is quote I found about Postala.
\"It is believed the Postala Watch Co. registered its trademark the “postal horn” in about 1910. This horn was blown by the helper of the postal coaches drivers to warn the on comers of the coach’s approaching on the twisted alpine roads. With the advent of the motorized coach the horns got replaced by ones operated with pressurized air. They are still in use these days as many alpine roads are rather tricky and the difficult to navigate. You shall find some information on the Swiss Post Bus system.

The original Postala company made movements only. It was established by the case makers Chatelain & Ducommun from Tramelan. This company is still in existence sort of. It is now headquartered in La Chaux-de-Fonds and bears the name G & F Chatelain SA. They are part of theSandoz foundationnowadays. Chatelain has recently been renamed Les Artisans Boîtiers and they are making cases to the most exacting standards you can imagine.

Postala Watch Company provided many manufacturers with movements. They were some kind of pioneers of thermo compensated movements. The barrel spring of these movements was subject to a lot less influence by changing temperatures, humidity and magnetism than was possible before. This was achieved by using different alloying techniques.

Postala seemed to have sold pocket watches under its own name as well. They went to all four corners of the globe. They seem to have been a mid-sized manufacturer. This means they made above a 100,000 movements a year. Many of them were chronometers thus highly accurate movements.

In the early years of the 1900s a lot of watch cases were made of silver. Stainless steel was not to be had back then so silver was the choice of material for the better watch. Besides silver has the added value of being anti-bacteriological. The dial of the watch seems to be enamelled. This was quite common back then as well.\"
