PRE-CIVIL WAR NEW YORK STATE CHASSEURS STYLE CAP ~ ORIGINAL:
$2400.00

I purchased this cap many years ago from a very reputable dealer in Schoolcraft, Michigan. It is 100% original and right. Full money back guaranteed. I have a 40 year collection of Civil War uniforms and artifacts. I am now beginning to sell off and pass onto the next generation of collectors.

This is a New York State issue pre-Civil WarChasseurs stylemilitia cap. The regiments that wore these were: 12th NY; 13th NY; 23rd NY; 71st NY.All of these regiments wore dark blue caps with light blue piping. Most of these caps had the number of the militia unit on the side buttons. This one however has standard prewar NYState Seal buttons. The cap is made of a fine dark wool broadcloth. It has a beautiful thin light blue piping that runs around the circumferance of the cap, up the front, back and sides, and a circle of piping around the crown. Cap has its original model 1858 small excelsior badge on the front. This is the correct insignia for these prewar NY Militia caps. This badge is absolutely 100% original . IT IS NOT A CHEAP REPRO ADD-ON.Pictured with cap is an early war imageof aNY soldier wearing a NY jacket and achasseurs cap with light piping on it.The cap has the early 1858 excelsior cap badge on it. (Note: CDV is not included in this sale)Cap has the four thin attaching wires as it should have andthey havebeen on the cap forever. Looking closely at the die strike you can see that it is absolutely correct. The patina matches the buttons. The buttons are Scovill Waterbury backmarked and they are New York State seal buttons. Cap has its original chin strap which is firmly in place. The visor is made of stiff tarred pasteboard (probably looked like patent leather when new) with a bound edge. Underside of visor is green, very dark now from age. Sweatband is firmly in place. Cap has its complete brown polished cotton lining, also firmly in place. The cap has some minimal moth damage with just a few small moth nips on crown and back as can be seen in photos. This is an absolutely beautiful piece of early Civil War headgear. It hurts to sell this one, but there comes a time when things must be passed on. I have priced thiscap $1000 less than valuated in the new North South Trader CW price guide. You won\'t be disappointed. Questions are welcomed.

I will ship with 24 hours of receipt of cleared payment. Payment is due within 2 days of the close of the sale.

Thank you for viewing my sale. offer with confidence.
