After high school in 1876, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. After graduation, he joined the Faculty of Medicine and as an artist and taxidermist scientific illustrations. Creating illustrations from the field microscopy, histology and anatomy.

He graduated from high school in Olomouc, then medicine in Prague. For the doctor was
declared in 1882 in the field of histology and embryology, two years later he won
chair of anatomy. In 1902 he became a member of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Letters and
art; twice he became dean of the Medical Faculty in Prague, once even rector
Czech universities. For his lifelong contribution to medical science was appointed Jan Janosik
honorary citizen of his native village.
