Description and Condition:Captain Frederick Marryat(10 July 1792– 9 August 1848]) was a BritishRoyal Navyofficer, a novelist, and an acquaintance ofCharles Dickens. He is noted today as an early pioneer of thesea story, particularly for his semi-autobiographical novelMr Midshipman Easy(1836), and for his many popular children\'s novels and short stories.
Pacha of Many Tales was published by D. Appleton Co., New York in 1873. Appleton published a whole series of Marryat volumes in that year and the list is shown in the last photo of this listing. I will be listing six other Marryat books from this series, so you might want to check them out.
This book contains one of Marryat\'s most popular collection of tales, deeply immersed in the Orientalism so favored throughout much of 19th Century England. It measures 7.5 inches by 5 inches and contains 321 pages. It is in what book sellers would call near fine condition. No internal marks save the short gift inscription from grandma. Pages are all in excellent condition. Front illustration protected by its original tissue overlay as shown on the listing photos. No foxing or stains. No tears. Hard cover has very minor signs of shelf wear.
