Pachycentria cf. pulverulentaPachycentria cf. pulverulenta ~ extremely rare epiphytic melastome!
Pachycentriaare members of the Melastomataceae family, withthe genus mostlycomprised of epiphytic herbs from southeast Asia where they normally grow in trees. Most species form small bushes to several feet in height and sport attractively patterned foliage and blooms, with P. glauca being the only species readily available. However, this new species from Laos is perhaps even more striking, with dark green leaves with contrasting veining and orangeinflorescences. It is grown best in a terrarium or greenhouse, in a moist but well draining soil mix and placed in an area with high humidity and bright indirect light. I grow this one in baskets of moist sphagnum and perlite.
sale is for the rooted started plant shown in the last two photos. Blooming photo is of parent plant. Incredibly rare in cultivation, don\'t miss out!

Payment and Shipping: Payment is expected within five (5) days of your commitment to buy and items will not be shipped until payment has cleared. Plants are shipped out Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid delays. For example, if the sale or sale ends on a Wednesday, it would get sent out the following week. Plants are always shipped bare root to reduce weight for shipping and reduce the chance of damage to the plant during transit. All items are bagged with ample moisture and the Latin name of the species will be written on outside of the bag. Insulation and heat packs may be used during colder months. Please Note: No international shipping at this time due to regulations, please do not offer if you are located outside the continental United States as I cannot ship overseas. No exceptions!

Combined Shipping: I am happy to combine shipping on all items bought within the same sale period of one week. Please ask me for an invoice before paying if you pay for one item and then win another item in the same sale so you do not pay excess shipping charges. Most things are combined under the same shipping price, however; on rare occasions with large items there may be additional shipping charges or items that will have to be shipped separately.

Biotopic Design’s Plants:The plants that I sell are cuttings and extras from my own personal collection as I often need to prune and make room for new additions. All plants are propagated by me by seed, cuttings, or division; no wild collected material is ever sold. All plants sold will have been established for several weeks to months to ensure survival and will generally have well developed roots and adult foliage. All species are grown in large specially constructed growing chambers and are acclimated to high levels of humidity, distilled or low pH water, and bright lighting. A non-toxic organic fertilizer is applied several times a year to satisfy growth, I recommend diluted orchid fertilizers without urea. Plants are not exposed to harsh fertilizers or pesticides and can be safely used in habitats containing sensitive amphibians and reptiles after being thoroughly rinsed.

Species Locality Info: Many of the species I grow and propagate are uncommon in US collections and have been sourced through fellow collectors and institutions. When available, the species’ locality and original collection information will be provided in the sale or sale listing. This may be basic geographical distribution by country, or detailed information such as town or region, elevation, or even the collection site. It is desirable to keep this data and pass it on if the plant ever should leave your collection. This data may enhance the plant’s cultivation as well as aid with research, conservation, or trading.

Nomenclature:The species are listed under their currently accepted scientific names when identified; species thought to be identified but still in question are left with the abbreviation cf. (confer/compare with), in ex; Philodendron cf. inaequilaterum. New species are listed using the abbreviation sp. nov (species novus – newly described species) as in Anthuriumsp. nov lapoanum. Species that are yet to be identified but have a unique identifier or unpublished name will have that reflected in their name, such as Ficus sp. Panama or Drymonia sp. Cuyabenensis.

Plant Care:Upon arrival, plants should be rinsed in lukewarm water to rehydrate them and planted in well draining soil media. The potting mix is dependent on species, however most plants do well in a mix developed by the Atlanta Botanical Garden comprised of equal parts peat moss, milled sphagnum, fine tree fern, fine orchid bark, and fine charcoal. This mix is long lasting in humid Environments and stays loose and airy. Plants should be kept moist and in high humidity for several weeks to help them get established to your Environment. All species for from my collection do well under artificial lighting in the form of full spectrum fluorescent or CF bulbs.
