SUPERB BOOK, RARE & OOP!


Absolutely perfect for fans of the War in the Pacific - one of the best books I have read in relation to the experiences of IJAAF pilots (along with books such as \'Genda\'s Blade) but which also includes stories from American pilots. The book is packed with photos and fantastic stories from veterans, and an essential purchase for both model makers and historians alike.

For years Western readers interested in WWII Japanese pilots and units had to make do with Saburo Sakai\'s SAMURAI. Thankfully, writers like Henry Sakaida began contacting IJAAF and IJNAF vets, prying out their stories of long-ago air combat and writing them up for publication.


Pacific AIR COMBAT WWII is a compilation of articles Sakaida did for Steve Blake\'s highly-regarded and sorely missed FIGHTER PILOTS IN AERIAL COMBAT magazine. The articles are utterly fascinating for anyone interested in the PTO air war. Among the inclusions are the true story of Lyndon Johnson\'s B-26 mission; an expose of the Zero pilot who claimed he downed Pappy Boyington; Japanese night bombers over Guadalcanal; the death of super ace Shoichi Sugita; the grisly story of a P-51 pilot who bailed out over Japan only to be killed by vengeful civilians; and so on.


The book is illustrated with over 140 photographs, many of them rare, along with a number of maps and diagrams.


Long out of print, Sakaida\'s book offers an entertaining, factual and well-illustrated account of Pacific air combats. Air war fans will greatly enjoy Pacific AIR COMBAT WWII...I know I did. Recommended.
