HAND PAINTED SAINT GEORGE THE DRAGON SLAYERICON MEDIEVAL Saint George(c. 275/281 – 23 April 303) was,according to tradition, a Roman soldier fromSyria Palaestinaand a soldier in the Guard of Diocletian, who is venerated as aChristian martyr.Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic(Western and Eastern Rites),Anglican,Eastern Orthodox, and the Oriental Orthodoxchurches. He is immortalized in the tale ofSaint George and the Dragonand is one of theFourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial iscelebrated on April 23, and he is regarded as one of the most prominentmilitary saints.Size measures is about 17 x 24 x 2 inches thick.It is signed (see pictures) but it is unknown by us who the painter is. It is done on wood.There are some black marks that could be from a cigarette(?) on the velvet around the painting(could be reframed). Some chips/scratches due to normal age and wear from moving it around. Age is unknown, butit is very old (vintage or antique). I am not an antique dealer or expert, so I don\'t know the age.This is a rare (one of a kind?) painting. I couldn\'t find another like it on the internet. It has a rich look. It would make a great addition to your home or to a collection.Pictures are part of the description.
