Here we have abeautiful pair of antique old Sheffield Plate silver plated candlesticks dating from around 1815, the Regency period. They are complete with their original sconces.There is an open hand mark on the base of each candlestick.We think is the mark used byGeorge Smith, Robert Tate, William Nicholson, and Ewin Hoult of Arundel street of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.The candlesticks aremade of copper fused with silver plate and this method of producing silver plated items was superseded by electroplatingin the early 19thC.There are several names for this type of plate, such as close plate, fused plate, OSP as well as old sheffield plate.The candlesticks each have shell and leaf moulded edges, on the base, neck ring and sconce.There is green baize to the weighted bases.Each candle stick is stamped with the serial number 1317B in the bottom of the candlesocket.Condition - Very good antique condition - some very minor knocks and marks commensurate with age and use. There is some minor bleeding of the copper on both sticks. No damage nor repairs. Please see the photographs.The candlesticks each stand 10 1/4inches high and 5 inches in diameter at the base. The sconces are 2 1/4 inches in diameter with an internal diameter of 7/8 inch.Theyweigh2068g unpacked.They are tooheavy to be shipped internationally by Royal Mail.
