Pair of Sterling Silver Vases Birmingham 1927

A pair of matching silver vases - in the shape of an elongated lily flower.

These vases have a simple but beautiful elegance.

I am selling these vases as a pair. One was damaged andhas a small dent and a split, so it will not hold water.

A silversmith can hammer out the dents and re-solder.

I have not cleaned these vases for a year or so - they belonged to my mother who had them for over 60 years.

They areboth assay marked for Birmingham 1927.

The makers mark “H M” is for Henry Matthews.

The weight of the vases are 355gm and 342gm.

I believe there is plaster in the base to balance each vase and I assume this extends to the knuckle.

At the top of the vase where the lily shape is, the thickness of the rim is approximately 0.8mm

– this has been measured with a micrometer.

Below the knuckle at the base when measured with a steel rule the thickness of the silver is just over 1 mm. or 1/16 of an inch.

The base diameter is 8cm, the height is 25cm and across the top it measures 10cm.
