A superb pair of antique French ormolu candlesticks dating from the 1880's. They are full of faded grandeur and ooze château chic charm.

Each candlestick stands on a highly decorative triangular base. The base has extensive acanthus leaf scroll work and the corners have gorgeous dramatic mythical masks.

The column is of the classic Empire style and has acanthus leaf decoration to the base, candle drips and candle holder.

The gilding on the ormolu has mellowed over the years to a soft old gold hue. Remaining highlights of the original gilding catch the light beautifully, an effect that can not be replicated.

Whether placed on a simple country buffet or a grand formal enfilade these gorgeous candlesticks will look stunning.

Dimensions:- H 27 cm (10.5 inches) x 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) along one of the sides of the base.
