Beautiful pair of Warren Kessler opaline glass/china lamps. Double bulb sockets over openwork brass throats. Original Warren Kessler New York labels. Individual pull chains operate each socket, allowing illumination of one bulb, the other, or both. Elaborate flame-shaped finials with screws for adjusting height. Lamps are approximately 30\" tall with 6\" diameter bases.
Warren Kessler lamps were manufactured in Bethpage and sold through Kessler\'s showroom on 57th Street. The lamps were purchased for US embassies around the world, and later sold through Bloomingdales and Marshall Fields. In 1960, Kessler lamps retailed for $80 each, or $660 in today\'s dollars.China lamp bases are in excellent condition with no apparent breaks, chips or cracks. Blue bands of paint have significant paint loss, and the remaining blue paint is fragile and flakes off with light pressure. I believe the blue paint could easily be completely removed if desired. Gold bands have lesser paint loss. Some age discoloration of brass components including one of the finials. Mock key end is missing from one lamp. Labels have slight damage. All four sides of lamps are shown in the photos.
Lamps will be professionally packaged and boxed for shipment, and I have adjusted my usual handling time to include that extra step. Because of the instability of the blue paint, buyer must accept that additional flaking will happen during packaging. Shipping cost includes insurance.
