Antique Cast Iron Shelf Brackets
Matching pair of antique cast iron shelf brackets in the Eastlake style circa 1880s. This pair is unmarked and measure 7 7/8” by 5 7/8” (20 cm by 15 cm). They are coated with what appears to be a very dark shellac or varnish. This old surface coating is “alligatored” from age (has a fine crackled finish when viewed very closely) and has minor chipping in some spots. There are a couple of tiny traces of old green paint as well, but the paint is only on the sections that would have touched a wall. The decorative geometric designs do not have paint residue.
Condition: These brackets are in good condition with no breaks or repairs. The surface has a “weathered” patina and the design is not as crisp as it was when it was new. There is rust on some areas, but it’s not very noticeable as it blends in with the dark brown color of the brackets. Please view all the detail photos carefully to assess the condition for yourself.
